Adam’s Colorblind Creation
My name is Adam Stewart. There is a story behind every piece of art I create. Even commissions must have a story or I turn them down. I have chosen to specialize in watercolor paintings. But I also create poetry and ink paintings.
I taught myself to paint in Laos. My sister Christi had gifted me some of her old paints, paper and a few brushes when I visited the family. At that time I was living in the spare classroom at an English school. After teaching I’d grab a quick bite to eat then settle in for the night of painting on the classroom walls or on some cheap paper deep into the night before falling asleep on the floor. I did this every night for months. My first attempts were laughable but we all have to start somewhere.
I make no apologies for being colorblind. I play with colors how I see them and hope that those who view my works can find beauty in them as well. I know that sometimes the colors do not match but I get compliments quite frequently about my usage of colors so I am hoping the story I want to tell is coming out in my paintings.
I can honestly say I live for art. If it was not for Art as an expression and escape I think I would have died years ago. This is not hyperbole but a reality. Living with chronic pain has made euthanasia an ever present option on the table but art makes me want to live. There are days when my hands shake and I can’t hold the brush accurately and the pain is unbearable but I still paint. Even the worst days in pain painting are better than the best days without a brush in my hand. I hope you can join me on this artistic journey and see some of the stories I have to tell. There are experiences that only a painting can express.
